Reverend Dr. A. Alfred Carson was born and raised in Catawba, NC where he attended Smyre’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. He was educated in the public-school system of Catawba County, North Carolina. After graduating from Bunker Hill High School he pursued his undergraduate education at Livingstone College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He preached his trial sermon in December 1991. He furthered his education by receiving his Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary. Reverend Carson served the Western North Carolina Conference by serving as Pastor of Mt. Vernon A.M.E. Zion Church, Statesville, NC, Grace A.M.E. Zion Church, Charlotte, NC and Popular Springs A.M.E. Zion Church, Lincolnton, NC.
Bishop George W.C. Walker, Sr. appointed Rev. Carson to Institutional A.M.E. Zion Church, Yonkers, NY and later appointed him to pastor Rush Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Jamaica, NY.

In 2006, under the leadership of Bishop George E. Battle Jr., Rev. Carson was appointed as the Presiding Elder of the New York City District, (The Mother District of Zion Methodism) where he has served for over ten years. Rev. Carson sits on several committees and boards across the connection including the Board of Directors for the Harriett Tubman Home, Inc., He is also a member of the NAACP and Zion Masonic Lodge #25, Catawba, NC. Rev. Carson was also the recipient of the Annual United Negro College Fund Livingstone College Leaders Hall of Fame in 2011. Rev. Carson currently serves as trustee for the New York Conference, treasurer for the New York Conference. In May 2019, Rev. Carson received his Doctorate in Divinity from the AME Zion Churches chief learning institution, Hood Theology Seminary.

During the 2015 London-Midland Annual Conference, the Right Reverend Dennis V. Proctor appointed Rev. Carson as the    Presiding Elder of the London District. The London District consists of 6 churches which are all vibrant and growing.

He is married to the former Dorian Marie Joseph and the proud father of Alexandria Caroline and Alexis Clarice.
